Monthly Sex Worker Support Group- This Tuesday, November 1 at Lifeworks Psychotherapy
SEX WORKER SUPPORT GROUP
Monthly on Tuesdays
6-7:30 pm
Upcoming dates:
November 1, December 6
This group meets at Lifeworks Psychotherapy Center in Skokie, at 8707 Skokie Blvd., Suite 310. Just east of the Edens Expressway and the Dempster Station on the CTA Yellow Line.
November’s Topic: What’s In A Name?
At our first support group meeting there was quite a bit of shuffling around about what name to use on the name tags. One participant said, “names are a big thing.” So, what is in a name? What’s the big thing names are? Does your name represent who you are in the trade? Does it protect you from being outed in public and personal walks of life? Does it make you more appealing, mysterious? If you are hiding your identity, what is it you are hiding? Let’s discuss together.
We are excited to launch this new support group for individuals who identify as sex workers. People in the sex trade often experience stigma, shame, guilt, isolation, and struggle to manage personal relationships. They may have conflicts within the industry, and difficulty with depression and/or anxiety. Support groups are a way to build community, share experiences and gain emotional support form others.
This group is co-sponsored by SWOP Chicago (Sex Worker Outreach Project) and is open to anyone who has previously or is currently working in the sex trade. (For the safety and protection of participants, this group is not open to consumers of sex industry services.) The group will be facilitated by Rami Henrich, LCSW and Cindy Trawinski, Psy.D.
